CMNA Power has achieved a robust, simple system to cost-effectively capture high altitude winds of 900 to 1200 feet. Our proprietary, patent-pending technology uses airfoils raised above the turbulent surface winds, tethered to a ground-based generation and control system. This technology offers a lower capital cost, higher consistency, and faster deployment than wind turbines due to several factors.

The winds CMNA Power has targeted are 76% faster, on average, than the winds available to turbines. Because wind power increases with the cube of wind speed, a 76% increase in wind speed yields a 445% increase in power. High-altitude winds are also more consistent, making the electricity easier to balance on the grid. Use of a simple design that utilizes mature technologies further decreases the unit cost and allows for rapid deployment.

CMNA Power’s technology is potentially disruptive to the wind energy marketplace because it offers significant improvements on all these points. The company’s technology:

Uses large, light parawings to capture the strong winds that weigh a fraction of the steel blades used in turbine technologies.

Uses high-tech fibers exhibiting a high strength-to-weight ratio to mechanically transfer power to the ground.

Utilizes ground-based generation equipment, reducing the weight of the airborne components and making the system less complex and easier to deploy and maintain.

Is consistent with FAA regulations. By flying at 900 to 1200 feet, the systems operate in unregulated Class G airspace. In discussions with the FAA, CMNA Power was told it is a simple, standard procedure to get the required FAA clearance to deploy its units at the target altitude.

Utilizes passive control, reducing the complexity of the system, which provides a faster time to market and a more robust system.
